LITANY

Leader: We are grateful for this opportunity to meet together at this gathering of the Southwest Section of the National Association of University Women, knowing that such a meeting is a chance for us to interchange wisdom and thus emerge with a higher level of sincerity, truth and understanding.

Audience: We come in search of earnest truth and understanding.

Leader: For our own shortcomings, our personal and national self-seeking; our love of material things, our undue pride, our subtle complacency.

Audience: We make our humble confession.

Leader: For a greater faith everywhere in the dignity and worth of the human person and of nations large and small, for a deeper regard among men for fundamental human rights.

Audience: We beseech Thee, O Lord.

Leader: For a new devotion to justice, a universal acceptance of moral law as a guiding principle, and a new respect for lawful agreements among the nations.

Audience: We beseech Thee, O Lord, to create within us a desire to learn the art of leadership and the duty of citizenship.

Leader: Enlarge our understanding of the meaning of this fellowship which binds together democratic, progressive, and civic-minded women throughout the nation.

Audience: Make us instrumental in building peace and creating understanding among all people.  May all organizations and institutions work for better understanding, social justice and righteousness among men.

Leader: Let us reverently and conscientiously accept our varied responsibilities and from this hour go forward with a keener insight to carry the torch of unity and understanding.

Audience: These things we pray of Thee, O Lord.
