Santa Monica's History of Women Of The Year

The Santa Monica Branch was chartered in June 2003. Mrs. Sallie Gibson is the founder and also served as the first president of the branch. She served as branch president until she was elected Southwest Sectional Director. Mrs. Lucille Thomas became the president after Mrs. Gibson. The charter members are Sallie Gibson, Lenora Brantley, Lucille Thomas, Margaret McCrary, Zola Jones, Berdia Perkins, Doris Dunn, Martha Lovelace, and Kelly Williams. Santa Monica currently has 20 members.

The Santa Monica Branch is dedicated to serving the youth in the community. Our major focus has been and continues to be education and scholarships. We provide scholarship to two students each year. Support for the first two students was provided until they graduated in 2006. We are presently supporting our second two scholarship recipients which started in 2007 and continues until present; 20010 – 2011.

Members provide tutoring two days per week for a local elementary school. Since the tutoring began, the principal has noted an increase in achievement at the school.

Santa Monica has actively participated in all of the Southwest Sectional Conferences. We have also participated in National Conventions.
